Famous for its castle remains and lakes Tattershall is an ever popular holiday destination in the heart of Lincolnshire. The medieval remains of Tattershall Castle stand 130ft above the open Lincolnshire landscape close to Tattershll Lakes Holiday Park and is one of the most important fifteenth-century brick built keeps in the country. The castle isn't Tattershall's only ancient monument, there's also the octagonal fifteenth century Buttercross which still stands in the heart of the villages market square and the grade 1 listed Holy Trinity Collegiate Church with its medieval stained glass window and intact rood loft. The church has a plaque marking the grave of one of Tattershall's most famous residents; Tom Thumb, A real chracter from history mytholigised in children's stories. Believed to be just 47cm tall, Tom Thumb died in 1620 at the grand old age of 101. His suitably small house can still be seen today on the roof of a larger house in Tattershalls' market square.
