Rye holiday parks, Sussex Holiday rentals - caravan & lodge parks in Rye
Rye holiday parks - an English town near the coast in East Sussex. In the centre, cobbled lanes with cute names such as, Mermaid Street and Watchbell Lane are lined with medieval, half-timbered crooked houses. The redbrick Lamb House was once owned by writer Henry James. Rye streets are clustered around a sandstone hillside, overlooking the winding River Rother and Romney Marsh. Rye is a relaxed, historic and picturesque and photogenic town, one definatley not to be missed.
Hundreds of years ago, Rye was surrounded by water and formed part of the medieval Cinque Ports. The town's hilltop was used as a vantage point for detecting and repelling theiving invaders. Ypres Tower, built in 1249 to defend Rye has views across the marsh to what was once one of the most important harbours in the country.
